Welcome Letter

September 6, 2012

Dear students and families,

Welcome back! I hope that you had a wonderful summer, and am now looking forward to beginning the 2012-2013 school year. It is shaping up to be a great year for your child, and I am excited to be able to be a part of your student’s education.

This year is going to bring some changes to how your child is accustomed to being taught. While your child will remain with me for science, ELA, and social studies, Mrs. Doyle and I will be combining the 7th and 8th grades classrooms daily for mathematics coursework, as well as twice a week for writing. We believe this will benefit your child as we will be able to provide extra support to allow your student to learn to their highest potential. For writing, we hope to have many interactive lessons in which to encourage your child in understanding how to write persuasively, i.e. writing to convince others of your own position on a topic. Your student will also be moving to different classrooms instead of remaining in the one classroom for all classes.

We also are welcoming a new person to the team. Mrs. Bartosh will be the paraprofessional in both of our classrooms. Though she is new to both our rooms, she is not new to the school. As a former    Title I paraprofessional at Wamsutta, we are thrilled to have her experience in providing reading support with your child. Additionally, she will be working with us during the mathematics and writing classes, providing even further support for your student.

Finally, I have sent home a notice about the IXL program we are offering the students in our classrooms. This is an online math program that your student will be able to use at home as well for continued practice. I hope your child uses this program regularly.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email as that is the best way in which to get in touch with me. However, if email is not an option, you are welcome to call the school.
